Supreme Court issues historical verdict in Gilani’s contempt of court case

Yesterday (26th April 2012) was a memorable day in the political history of Pakistan. Seven-member bench of the most prestigious court of Pakistan announced its decision on ‘contempt of court’ case filed against the Prime Minister Gilani. The court had been hearing to this crucial case for more than 3 months. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was ordered by the Supreme Court to write letter to the Swiss courts for seizing President Zardari’s bank accounts where millions of dollars had been shifted illegally from Pakistan, which was state’s money. Yousaf Raza Gilani refused writing the letter to the Swiss courts by taking view that no such action could be taken against the sitting President as per the constitution of Pakistan.

Yesterday leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party had a view in their mindset that Gilani would be given some punishment by the court as his lawyer Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan completely failed in convincing the judges that his client was innocent. However PPP leaders had planned to use the anticipated high level punishment as a card for the upcoming election. On the other side honourable judges were also very well aware of the politics taking place around this case. They gave a golden verdict, in which Gilani was declared as a convict and he was ordered to remain standing till the ending of court’s session. Nobody was expecting such decision. By this Supreme Court destroyed PPP’s plans completely. The decision also marked a memorable defeat of Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, who had gained lot of respect during the restoration movement of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

I congratulate the honourable judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, who once again taught PPP a great lesson and didn’t provide them the opportunity to become innocent in the eyes of Pakistani citizens.

PTI Pakistan Day Function in Sydney

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Australia chapter organised a special evening in Sydney on 8th of April 2012 for celebrating the Pakistan Day (23 March 1940). It was my first chance to attend a PTI program after joining them formally. Program was anchored by the versatile compere Mr. Salik Hameed Khawaja, who used very meaningful verses from Urdu poetry throughout his compering.

Program started around 5:30 pm. PTI Executive Committee member Mr. Farhan Arif recited few ayats from Surah Yaseen. Later a young student Ansar presented Naat (praise of Prophet Muhammad PBUH). Then Shahid Javed (myself) played the beautiful videos of Pakistani and Australian national anthems on the multimedia screen. After the anthems, Ms. Sarwat Hassan was called onto the stage who presented a very impressive English presentation on the importance of Pakistan Day.

Eng. Shahid Javed with Eng. Nasir A. Karim (Canberra)

Crowd was now waiting for some sort of entertainment. Team Dosti Manager Zahid Minhas invited Shahid Javed (myself) and Shayan Rafique onto the stage. Shayan was the singer and Shahid was on the workstation. They sang a modified version of evergreen national song “Mein Bhi Pakistan Huun (میں بھی پاکستان ہوں)”. Song received high response from the crowd. After that PTI Australia President came onto the stage. He highlighted the efforts of Imran Khan and his team (PTI) in bringing the country back to the track which was paved by the founder Mr. Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Following him Mr. Waqas Basheer, member PTI Executive Committee presented the slides based journey of PTI, in which Imran Khan’s various interviewsand large gatherings were shown on screen.

Audience enjoying the program

The presentation was followed by the dinner break. Very delicious food was provided by the Himalaya Restaurant (the venue). After the break Sydney based Pakistani mimickers Farjad Mehmood and Khurram Qaiser presented a beautiful comedy skit, which was highly appreciated by the audience. Then a female singer Mehreen Javed sang Junoon’s famous national song “Jazba Junoon (جذبہ جنون)”. She also sang two more songs “Mahia (ماہیا)” and “Boohay Baariaan (بوہے باریاں)”. After her songs Sydney based famous Pakistani journalist Mr. Ateeq-ul-Hassan spoke to the audience about the concept of two-nation theory. He also assured his full support to PTI. Later Sydney based Pakistani solicitor Mr. Ijaz Khan was invited to the stage. He also gave a very good speech in which he highlighted the importance of unity and punctuality in our community. He assured his full support to PTI as well.

Then Shahid and Shayan once again came for performing and they performed very popular song of Strings “Mein Tou Daikhuun Ga (میں تو دیکھوں گا)”. Then they sang a beautiful medley of Alamgir’s very popular songs “Deikha Na Tha (دیکھا نہ تھا)” and “Ko Ko Koreina (کو کو کورینا)”. Crowd sang the song with them. After these songs, President of SOS Pakistan Ms. Rachel Cruz informed about the SOS efforts in Pakistan for helping the deprived children. After this informative speech, Team Dosti Manager, Mr. Zahid Minhas invited Noman Ahmed Zaka who sang “Allah Hoo” without any music and cast a spell with his beautiful grip on the difficult notes. Shahid and Shayan provided him backvocals for this beautiful sufi melody. Later Shahid and Shayan were invited once again on the stage. They sang Najam Sheraz’s super hit song “In Se Nain (ان سے نین)”. By this this beautiful evening reached its ending.

Mehreen singing "Mahia"

I (Shahid Javed) playing and singing "In Se Nain"

The event could be regarded as a good effort of PTI Australia. However this time number of guests was less than the 14th August 2011 event. This could be mainly because of the reason that the function was organised on Easter day, and many families were outside Sydney for enjoying 4 day long Easter weekend.

No ‘VIP’ culture in Australia

Its 2012….. but in Pakistan it is a common road scene that hundreds of vehicles are held for long time by the traffic police just for making sure that a VIP’s convey passes without a single second of delay. Unfortunately many times ambulances carrying serious patients get stuck which sometime results in the unforeseen causalities.

In Australia there is no concept of any VIP culture. Here even the richest people have to obey the law in the same way like a common man does. On the petrol stations, owners/drivers of the vehicles fill fuel in their car themselves and then pay the required amount by waiting in queues. Even police cops follow the same discipline. Nobody cares about the brand or model of others’ cars. This is the reason Australian society is free from any classification based on financial statuses. All type of people travel in public transport as parking is not available in the CBD’s.

I wish our beloved Pakistanis can change their mind and treat everyone in the same way…..

Pakistani nation getting frustrated on extra slow action of Supreme Court against PM Gilani

Contempt case is in the final stages in Supreme Court these days. Prime Minister Gilani was yesterday told by the Supreme Court, in his presence that he stood accused in this case as he intentionally ignored Court’s orders for writing the letter to the Swiss banks for cooperating in the money laundering case against President Zardari. Now the Prime Minister of Pakistan has been indicted in contempt of court case.

However once again Supreme Court postponed the hearing of this case till 22nd of February 2012. This has created frustration in Pakistani nation who wants immediate decision on this historic case. Common man is already depressed because of the prevailing issues in Pakistan. Famous lawyer and politician Aitzaz Ahsan already defamed himself by offering his advocacy services to Prime Minister Gilani in this case. People now want culprits to be punished, otherwise they will lose their hope in the system.

The wind of change in Pakistan!

At last people of Lahore voted in the favour of their new leader Imran Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Yesterday at Minar-e-Pakistan around 100,000 people came to listen the great leader on his call againt the corrupt PPP government. Imran not only presented his party’s policy in detail, but also warned the government of civil disobedience in case the politicians don’t declare their assetts.

KING KHAN!

Journalists and analysts are decalring the gathering as a huge success for PTI who has been trying to bring change in Pakistanis’ attitude for last 15 years. Gathering was attended mostly by the youngsters from middle and upper-middle classes. They were very sentimental about Imran. One different and good thing was that pop singers and bands including Shahzad Roy and Strings also performed live on the stage, whereas Imran and otehrs also offered prayer on the stage. It brought a moderate image of Imran and his party.

Ladies and elderly people also came to the gathering. They all came from far off places to show their support to Imran and his team. Minar-e-Pakistan park could not hold all the spectators and many had to listen to the speeches standing outside the park. I am very happy to see this ‘wind of change’ coming in Pakistan. I wish that Imran could become the prime minister of Pakistan and bring our country out of the long-going crisis. We love Pakistan!

” Hunooz Dilli Door Ast’.'Delhi is still far away’. A Question to the Nation of Pakistan

” Hunooz Dilli Door Ast’.'Delhi is still far away’. A Question to the Nation of Pakistan

Mohammad Shah Rangeela the putative ruler of Hindustan in 1739 was in his cups, drunk to his gills, in the Diwane Khas in Delhi, when a courtier arrived and told him that Nadir Shah of Persia had entered the confines of Hindustan. From the haze Rangeela was in, he muttered” Hunooz Dilli Door Ast’.'Delhi is still far away’.

Above quotations are taken by sources of History ,but I want to draw kind and curious attention of the Nation of Pakistan that NETO forces looking forward their next destination to ruin and their military post have been transferred into the territory of Pakistan near Afghan border ,in such critical situation peoples of my country as a (zindah qaum ,paa’indah qaum ) with their beloved elected politicians and their leaders are fighting to have overcome on their domination just ,I want to ask really  ” Hunooz Dilli Door Ast’.'Delhi is still far away’.

Hats off to Urdu Society of Australia

It was a beautiful evening in Sydney on 17th September 2011. I was invited by the Urdu Society of Australia on their 16th Annual Urdu Mushaira (مشاعرہ) which the Society management dedicated to the legendary Urdu poet of Pakistan Faiz Ahmad Faiz (late) who holds a big name for his great revolutionary poetry against the Army dictators of country.

Izhar ul Haq and Khalid Masood on the stage

Event was held in Saphire Function Hall, Aburn, Sydney. Famous poet Mr. Khalid Masood Khan, who is my close relative, arrived especially from Multan, Pakistan for reading his popular humorous poetry collection. Another big name was Mr. Izhar ul Haq, a Pakistani based poet from Melbourne, Australia. Beside them there were some very good Urdu poets from Sydney and Melbourne, including Sadiq Saba, Dr. Kausar Jamal, Ashraf Shad, Abbas Gilani, Zafar Islam Khan, Arshad Saeed, Nadeem Nadavi, Salik Hameed Khawaja, Asmat Aara, Karishan Rahat, and Tariq Mirza etc. A delicious buffet dinner was also served to all the attendees. A large number of Pakistani and Indian community members attended the Mushaira which continued till mid-night.

All the performances were just amazing. Punjabi poem by Dr. Kausar Jamal ‘Rabba Meray Sohnya’ (ربا میرے سوہنیا) was a beautiful poem which explained feeling of a sad believer of Allah SWT. Arshad Saeed shared beautiful memories of Faiz Ahmad Faiz with the audience. All other poets also presented very beautifully written poems and ghazals. Some of the poets discussed issues related to the expatriates in Australia, whereas some discussed the present bloodshed in Karachi and other parts of Pakistan.

In the end Mr. Khalid Masood Khan was invited, who brought smiles and laughters on all the faces by his great funny poems and spontaneous (extempore) funny comments. He stole the show. I was very happy to see him live for the first time in my life as I had never attended any mushaira (مشاعرہ) before where he had performed.

All the poets highly appreciated and thanked the Sydney audience for appreciating the poets in a true positive sense.

Sydney – the city of festivals and multiculturalism

On 30th and 31st of August Muslims celebrated Eid(s) in Australia and in other corners of the world. I could not imagine that Eid would be celebrated in such a great way in Sydney, Australia. Many festivals and programmes were organised in this regard, which were attended not only by the Muslims but Christians, Jews, Hindus and Sikhs as well. I feel proud to see that Pakistani community in Sydney is very well organised and they arranged many of these programmes.

Eid celebrations kicked off with Chand Raat Eid festival which was organised by a Pakistani family. This was a beatiful colourful event held on Sunday 28th of August 2011. It was attanded by Pakistani Conslate General Mr. Azam Muhammad and a good number of NSW members of the Parliament. Pakiastani, Indian, Bangali and Arab communities arranged beautiful stalls of clothes, hina, bangles and delicious food.

On Sunday 4th September Pakistani and Indian Muslims organised MEFF (Multicultural Eid Festival and Fair). Once again it attracted a large number of Muslims and others living in Sydney. Its main attraction was the beatifully decorated stalls by different companies and restaurants. Families were present in a large number to attend the event. It was just like a full-day picnic.

On Wednesday 7th September Pakistan Association of  Australia arranged a special Eid Milan program in NSW Parliament House in Sydney. This event was only for the selected elite class Pakistanis living in Australia. President Iftikhar Rana and Mr. Ashraf Chohan put great efforts showed in bringing a big number of NSW members of Parliament there. I was amazed to know that Ms. Barbara Perry (Shadow Minister for Ageing, Shadow Minister for Disability Services, Shadow Minister for Family and Community Services, and Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs) arranged the halal snacks at her own expense for all the guests. A beautiful comedy skit presentation was made by Khurram Qaiser and Farjad Butt which got great applause by the audience.

I really appreciate Sydneysiders who are doing great work for showing tolerance, harmony, mutual respect and care towards each other. This positive attitude has made this lovely city a real ‘city of peace’. I give credit to every single Sydneysider on this.

Great harmony between Pakistanis and Indians living in Australia

Indus Village Restaurant, Sydney

I got two different yet interesting chances of attending gatherings where Pakistanis and Indians living in Australians (students, immigrants and Australian citizens by grant) were present together, and to my surprise they were not discussing any politics at all. Both events took place in Australia, however were totally different from each other in their nature.

First event was the opening of a Pakistani-Indian cuisine restaurant Indus Village in Blacktown, Sydney. The restaurant is owned by a young Pakistani student Mr. Adnan Ahmed. He had invited his friends from Pakistani and Indian communities on this special occasion. I got a good chance of meeting senior businessmen and engineers there. I really liked the attitude Indian guys showed. They made the evening memorable with their lively dance performances on live DJ music. Pakistani gentlemen also danced with them. Everyone was happy over Adnan’s attempt and all were well wishing him. Indian friends especially met me after knowing that I was an Engineer. They appreciated our community in Australia and blamed politicians for the differences between the two countries.

Lakemba Masjid

Second event was a religious gathering in Ernest Street Masjid, Lakemba, Sydney. This was a general Islamic talk. I got highly impressed to see Pakistani, Indian and Bangali Muslims making programs for participating in upcoming preach-walks, 3-day and 40-day stays in Jamaat sessions in various areas of Australia. Subhan Allah! I could not imagine that in Australia I would find the true good Muslims. I came to know that this is a regular practice of carrying out such gatherings in the Ernest Street Masjid, which was a church previously. By the grace of Allah Muslims from different ethnicity and cultural background work together for the noble cause of keeping our Muslim community united. They are struggling hard to make sure that Australian Muslims keep away from social evil.

On both sides, as mentioned above I really liked the harmony between the Pakistani and Indian communities. They are living in Australia in a very friendly environment. I wish that my Pakistani nation fellows living in different provinces of country could learn from them and stop hating and torturing each other on the basis of political, cultural and religious differences. Allah may bless my country with peace and prosperity. Ameen!
